POPSUGAR October Must Have Box

POPSUGAR sent me this Must Have Box to try. As always, all opinions are my own.

Was it just me or was October the quickest month ever? Between weddings, family activities and Fall activities, it seemed like the whole month just flew by! Another highlight of last month was the October POPSUGAR Must Have Box.   I really loved September’s Must Have Box, but October was even better! Check out everything from this month’s box and use the code below to get in on the action!

Henri Bendel Packable Umbrella ($58)

This umbrella totally saved me from the rain last week in NYC. It’s so adorable and pretty compact, so it may have a permanent home in my bag. Now, I just need some matching pink rainboots.

Lalicious Brown Sugar Vanilla Shower Oil and Bubble Bath ($28)

I haven’t used this yet, but it smells AMAZING and I can’t wait to try it once this surprisingly warm weather leaves.

My Cup of Cocoa Dark Drinking Chocolate ( $4.99)

I’m a huge fan of hot chocolate in the winter, so I was really excited to see a new brand to try. It’s super affordable and the packaging is adorable, making it a perfect gift for the holidays!

Morning Culture Rise & Shine Diner Mug ($16)

I may or may not have an obsession with coffee mugs (just ask my husband) and I’m really excited to add this one to my collection.

Power Your Happy ($25)

I grabbed this for my train ride to NYC last week and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve always been a big POPSUGAR fan, but reading Lisa’s story about building it from the ground up has been so inspiring.

Makeup Eraser The Makeup Eraser Mini ($12)

I was a little hesitant about this, but it did the trick! I’ve only tried it after a normal work day, and not on any crazy eye makeup, but if it lasts 1,000 washes like it says — you can count me in!

REVLON ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen ($8.99)

I’ll be the first to admit that my eyeliner skills are lacking. Application was pretty easy and lasted until the Makeup Eraser took care of it!

Overall, this box was a huge value coming in at a total of $152.98 worth of products for only $39.95 per month. Plus, you can shop here and use the code SHOP5 for $5 off of your first #MustHaveBox!

POPSUGAR September Must Have Box

It’s officially the weekend and I’m kicking it off with a look at the September POPSUGAR Must Have Box! This box was so much better than I imagined and I have a few new favorites already!

Jack & Lucy Bicoastal Wide Brim Hat ($58)
So, I have to say, I’m not really a hat person but this is pretty cute.  I could definitely see my sister wearing this (hey, Jaime!) and she might just be able to borrow it if she asks nicely.
Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask ($36)
I love a good hair mask and this one is on the agenda for Sunday night.  I’ll let you all know how it goes but I’m definitely excited to try this new-to-me brand!
Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer ($22)
This color looks brighter than anything I would ever wear, but I tried it out and it’s pretty sheer, which makes it super pretty and totally wearable.
NCLA Mani E.R Tool Kit ($16)
You never know when a nail emergency is going to strike and this adorable nail tool kit has made it’s way into my desk at work.
Gluten Free Bites Dark Chocolate Coconut Bites ($5)
I would never go out of my way to buy anything Gluten Free, so I was hesitant to try these.  I brought them to work “in case I got hungry” and opened them on Monday.  They’re almost gone. So… thumbs up on a delicious healthy snack!
flint Lint Roller ($10)
With a dog and a cat and a love for black clothing, lint rollers are basically a requirement in my life.  This one is super cute and perfect to keep in my bag for lint-rolling on the go.
I have to say, I’m super impressed with the POPSUGAR #MustHaveBox.  If you’re interested in trying it, check out http://bit.ly/2bmyX1F  and use SHOP5 (it never expires!) for $5 off of your FIRST Must Have Box!

Recipe || Cinnamon Crumble Apple Pie

We spent the weekend enjoying the gorgeous Connecticut Fall weather and went apple picking at Silverman’s Farm in Easton. After a cute tractor ride, careful apple selection and obligatory apple cider and apple cider donut purchases, we headed home. Pete loves apple desserts (read: all desserts) and had his heart set on an apple crisp pie so I checked out Pinterest for the perfect apple crisp pie recipe and came across this Cinnamon Crumble Apple Pie recipe from Bon Appétit October 2003.

I wasn’t planning on blogging this but I got tons of requests for the recipe, so here’s my first attempt at a recipe post!  I wish I could say I came up with this on my own, or that it was some family recipe passed down for generations, but I tweaked the recipe above and the results were delicious.  Now, let’s be real, I did not make a homemade crust.  But, if you’re interested (and overly ambitious) it was included in the original recipe.

What you need:

Filling

  • 3 1/4 pounds Golden Delicious & Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup golden brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons butter

What to do:

    1. Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 400°F.
    2. Mix all of the filling ingredients in large bowl to coat apples.
    3. Mix all of the topping ingredients with your mixer, adding butter until the mixture resembles wet sand.
    4. Transfer filling to crust.
    5. Pack topping over and around apples.
    6. Bake pie on baking sheet until topping is golden, about 40 minutes.
    7. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Bake until apples in center are tender when pierced and filling is bubbling thickly at edges, about 40 minutes longer.
    8. Cool until warm, about 1 hour, and serve with vanilla ice cream!

We got a little carried away with the apple peeling and slicing and ended up with two pies, but I’m sure that won’t be an issue in our house.  So, what do you think? Will you be making your very own Cinnamon Crumble Apple Pie this Fall?
